The Premier League has been the most competitive football league in the world for well over two decades now.
Since it’s migration into the new system in 1992, as many as six different clubs have won the Premier League title till date including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City.
Today we take a look at top 10 clubs with the highest number of points gained in their time in the Premier League.
10. West Ham United – 1088 points
East-London based club West Ham United have been one of the mainstays in the Premier League barring a few relegations.
They have played as many as 875 Premier League games in their time spent in the top flight, winning 287, drawing 227 and losing 361 games, earning a total of 1088 points and becoming one of the top 10 clubs with the most points earned in the modern era.
9. Aston Villa – 1223 points
The European Cup winners of 1981-82 season, followed by the European Super Cup win the following year, Aston Villa is one historical club in England.
The seven time FA Cup winners were also one of the founding members of the new Premier League in 1992 and finished runners-up to champions Manchester United that year.
They were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 season and have since then played in the Championship. During the entirety of their tenure in the Premier League, Villa played 924 games, won 316, draw 275 and lost 333 matches to put as many as 1223 points on the table, the ninth highest in the League’s history.
8. Newcastle United – 1262 points
Newcastle United have spent 87 seasons in the top-flight. They are eighth in the all time Premier League table and have the ninth-highest total of major honours won by an English club with 11 wins.
Currently still part of the Premier League, The Magpies have played as many as 913 games in the league’s history, winning 343, drawing 233 and losing 337 games, thus earning a total point tally of 1262 points.
Statistically, they can be called the eighth most successful football club in England.
7. Manchester City – 1345 points
One of the strongest football club in England right now, Manchester City was one of the co-founders of the new Premier League.
After an uncertain start to the 90s, they was relegated to the Championship in 1996, infamously becoming the first former European trophy winning club to be relegated to the third division of English football in 1999, a year when their cross town rivals Manchester United won the historical treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League.
Right up until 2008, Manchester City were nowhere to be seen around the top six teams before the Abu Dhabi United Group took over the club and changed their fortunes.
They have since then won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four EFL Cups. During their time in top flight, the reigning Champions of England have played 840 games, winning 383, drawing 196 and losing 261 games in order to amass a total of 1345 points in the Premier League era.
6. Everton – 1413 points
One time European cup winners Everton were also one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992 and have since then been in and around the top half of the league table.
The Toffees have played a total of 1031 matches in the Premier League up till now and have claimed 1413 points, the sixth highest among all in English football.
5. Tottenham Hotspur – 1585 points
North-London side Tottenham Hotspur was one of the five clubs that pushed for the founding of the Premier League, created with the approval of the FA, replacing the Football League First Division as the highest division of English football.
Despite a succession of managers and players such as Teddy Sheringham, Jurgen Klinsmann and David Ginola, Tottenham were a mid-table club for a long time in the Premier League until the late 2000s.
They won two EFL cups in 1999 and 2008 respectively. Since then, Spurs have achieved their highest placed finish in the Premier League, when they came second in the 2016-17 season.
During their time in the Premier League up till now, Spurs have played a total of 1030 games, winning 443, drawing 256 and losing 331 matches, thus amassing a total of 1585 points, the fifth highest tally in English football.
4. Liverpool – 1828 points
By far, the most successful English club in European tournaments, five time European cup winners Liverpool are one of the best supported teams in world football.
The Reds are 18 times champions of England’s first division with their last league title coming in the year 1989-90. They are yet to win the Premier League title since it’s creation in 1992.
During their tenure in the Premier League, Liverpool have played 1,031 matches in total. They have won 522 games, drawn 262 and lost 247 to garner a total of 1,828 points in modern day football.
3. Chelsea – 1916 points
Created in 1905, West London club Chelsea has a pretty illustrious history in modern day football.
The Blues have won the Premier League title five times. Chelsea have also won eight FA Cups, five League Cups, one Europa League as well as the UEFA Champions League among other European accolades.
They are currently the third highest club in English football with the most number of points. Chelsea have played a total of 1,030 games in the Premier League, winning 554, drawing 254 and losing 222 matches to garner a total of 1,916 points in modern day football till date.
2. Arsenal – 1945 points
North-London giants and one of the biggest football clubs in the world, Arsenal dominated the Premier League along with Manchester United for many years.
Also one of the founders of the Premier League, Arsenal have won 13 league titles, a record 13 FA Cups, two league cups and a UEFA Cup Winners Cup.
Since the inception of the Premier League, Arsenal have played 1,030 games and have won 562 of them. They have drawn 259 and lost 209 to reach the second highest points total of 1945 in English football.
1. Manchester United – 2160 points
The greatest club in English football, Manchester United holds majority dominance over the Premier League along with Arsenal.
The Red Devils have mesmerised English football for many decades now, winning a record 20 league titles (13 Premier League titles), 12 FA Cups, five league cups and a record 21 FA Community Shields among many other accolades.
Their success in English football is much credited to their legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson who wrote one of the most decorated stories in modern day football with Manchester United.
Since the beginning of the Premier League era, Manchester United, along with the other founder members of the league, have played a total of 1,030 games and have won 646 of those games, more than any other club in England.
Additionally, they have drawn 222 and lost just 162 games in a period spanning close to three decades. Manchester United have amassed a total of 2,160 points since the beginning of the Premier League era and thus find their rightful place at the top of this list.
